HC Deb 11 March 1935 vol 299 cc8-9
17. Mr. HANNON

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he is in a position to make a statement on the concentration of Turkish troops on the Bulgarian frontier; and if any representations in the interests of the maintenance of peace are being made through the League of Nations or otherwise?

Mr. EDEN

I understand that on the 7th March the Permanent Delegate of Bulgaria to the League of Nations communicated to the Secretary-General of the League a memorandum drawing his attention to an alleged concentration of Turkish troops in Thrace, and foreshadowing that Bulgaria might in due course have to appeal to the League in this matter. On the 9th March an official announcement was issued by the League of Nations to the effect that the Permanent Delegate of Bulgaria had withdrawn the memorandum in view of the friendly conversations which were taking place between the two Governments

Mr. HANNON

Does this indicate that the trouble between Bulgaria and Turkey has ceased?

Mr. EDEN

As far as I am aware these friendly conversations are going on.
