HC Deb 07 March 1935 vol 298 cc2104-5
8. Mr. RHYS DAVIES

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether it is intended to introduce legislation to implement the report of the Departmental Committee on imprisonment in default of payment of fines?

The SECRETARY of STATE for the HOME DEPARTMENT (Sir John Gilmour)

I regret I am not in a position at present to make any statement with regard to legislation, but the hon. Member may be assured that the question is receiving my active and sympathetic consideration.

Mr. DAVIES

Will the right hon. Gentleman be good enough to bear in mind the urgency of this problem and the fact that the main recommendations of the committee were practically unanimous?

Sir J. GILMOUR

indicated assent.
