HC Deb 07 March 1935 vol 298 cc2113-4
32. Mr. T. SMITH

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer the expenditure per head of the population for armed defence purposes by the Governments of the United Kingdom, the Irish Free State, Canada, Australia, South Africa, and New Zealand, respectively, for each of the past five years?

Mr. CHAMBERLAIN

I would refer the hon. Member to the Armaments Year Book, published by the League of Nations, which contains particulars of defence expenditure and population for each of the countries referred to. As regards the United Kingdom, I would also refer the hon. Member to the reply which I gave to the right hon. Member for the South Molton Division (Mr. Lambert) on the 29th November last as to defence expenditure over the last ten years, of which I am sending him a copy.
