HC Deb 07 March 1935 vol 298 cc2139-40
Mr. LANSBURY

May I ask the Lord President of the Council the business for next week?

Mr. BALDWIN

The business will be as follows:

Monday: Debate on Defence, which will take place on the Motion of Censure standing on the Order Paper in the name of the right hon. Gentleman the Leader of the Opposition:

Tuesday: Committee stage of the Government of India Bill.

Wednesday: Committee stage of the Government of India Bill, and of the Cattle Industry (Emergency Provisions) Bill.

Thursday: It is proposed to move Mr. Speaker out of the Chair on going into Committee of Supply on the Navy Estimates, and to consider Votes A, 1, 2, 10 and 13 for 1935, and Navy Supplementary for 1934.

The business for Friday will be announced later, and on any day, if there is time, other Orders will be taken.

Mr. LANSBURY

We are not sure that we can agree to take the Cattle Industry (Emergency Provisions) Bill after 11 o'clock on Wednesday, and I want to enter a protest against it.

Mr. BALDWIN

The right hon. Gentleman knows that that is the Bill which has to be taken one stage at a time. If there is any difficulty about it, perhaps he will consult my right hon. and gallant Friend the Patronage Secretary, but it will, of course, have to be taken after 11 o'clock as we are anxious to get it through.

Mr. LANSBURY

It is not usual to tell the House that it must take a Bill of this kind after 11 o'clock at night. Surely there will be time to take it at an earlier hour. It is rather peremptory to tell us that we must take any Bill after 11 o'clock.

Mr. BALDWIN

Perhaps the right hon. Gentleman will consult my right hon. and gallant Friend.

Mr. LANSBURY

The right hon. Gentleman is always quite reasonable, but to-day he has said that we must take the Bill after 11 o'clock.

Mr. BALDWIN

I think the right hon. Gentleman was a little sharp, but as this is a matter we are going to discuss I will say no more about it.

Sir HUGH O'NEILL

May I ask when the Budget is to be introduced? Will it be before or after Easter?

Mr. BALDWIN

A statement will be made later. I cannot give the information.
