HC Deb 07 March 1935 vol 298 c2103
5. Mr. THORNE

asked the Minister of Labour whether he is aware that the case of E. Todd, of Swaffham, Suffolk, was submitted to the umpire's office on the 17th of December last, and that 11 weeks elapsed before a decision was given; also that the case of E. W. Chittock, of South end, was submitted to the office of the umpire on the 1st November last and a decision was not given until 5th February, 1935; whether he can give the reasons for delay; and whether the cause is insufficient staff in this department?

Mr. STANLEY

The dates mentioned by the hon. Member are approximately correct. The delay was due to the need for further inquiries before the cases could be finally determined by the Umpire, and was not due to insufficient staff.
