§ 29. Sir W. DAVISONasked the Postmaster-General whether he is aware of the inconvenience caused and the frequent surcharges made by reason of the fact that postcards between Great Britain and the Dominions require a 1½d. stamp, the 1563 same as a letter, instead of a 1d. stamp, as in Great Britain; and whether he will take into consideration the desirability of having the postage rates both for postcards and letters the same for the Dominions as for Great Britain?
§ The POSTMASTER-GENERAL (Sir Kingsley Wood)I am aware that, notwithstanding the publicity given to the correct postage, postcards for Empire destinations are frequently posted at the inland rate of 1d. instead of at the proper rate of 1½d. A number of considerations are involved in my hon. Friend's suggestion, but I am looking further into the matter.
§ Sir W. DAVISONDoes not the right hon. Gentleman think it would be very much appreciated by citizens of the Empire if we could have a penny postcard throughout the Empire?
