HC Deb 04 March 1935 vol 298 c1578
51. Mr. WILMOT

asked the Minister of Labour whether the Unemployment Statutory Committee are proposing to take into consideration the insurance against unemployment of blackcoated workers?

Mr. HUDSON

Yes, Sir. A notice appeared in the Press on Thursday last stating that my right hon. Friend had referred to the Statutory Committee for their advice the question whether the unemployment insurance scheme should be extended to cover non-manual workers remunerated at more than £250 a year, and asking that any representations on the subject should be addressed to the secretary of the committee at Montagu House, Whitehall.

Mr. WILMOT

While thanking the hon. Gentleman for his reply, may I ask whether he can give any indication as to when the necessary legislation is likely to be presented to the House?

Mr. HUDSON

The hon. Gentleman will remember that during the course of the discussions on the Bill we promised that it should be referred to the Statutory Committee as soon as possible, and I think that some credit is due to the Department for having carried out that promise so promptly.
