HC Deb 20 June 1935 vol 303 cc561-2
88. Brigadier-General NATION

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he has any further information to give to the House regarding the motor-ship "Omar" which has been detained by the Finnish authorities for a considerable time; and whether the matter is to be submitted to arbitration?

Lieut.-Colonel J. COLVILLE (Secretary, Overseas Trade Department)

I have been asked to reply. Since my hon. and gallant Friend asked a similar question last March, the Supreme Court in Finland has upheld the judgment of the Court of Appeal in the case of the "Omar." The question whether the case should now be submitted to arbitration is under consideration by His Majesty's Government.

Brigadier-General NATION

Would my hon. and gallant Friend do all he can to obtain a decision in this matter, which has been hanging on for so long?

Lieut.-Colonel COLVILLE

I can assure my hon. and gallant Friend that there will be no avoidable delay.
