§ 28. Mr. McENTEEasked the Minister of Transport whether the new automatic signals for pedestrians which have been fitted to existing traffic-light standards in Trafalgar Square have been a success; and whether it is proposed to extend the system?
§ Mr. HORE-BELISHAI am not satisfied with the experiment at Trafalgar Square, and while it may be desirable to try out similar signals in other localities with a view to obtaining more experience, I should not, as at present advised, be prepared to extend the system generally.
§ Sir W. BRASSWill the Minister of Transport consider another experiment, of putting the lights down on the stem of the standards instead of at the height at which they are now in Trafalgar Square?
§ Mr. HORE-BELISHAI am most willing and anxious to try these experiments, and I will take the hon. and gallant Member's suggestion into review.
