asked the Minister of Transport the total amounts spent on road construction in England and Wales for each year since 1929 to 1934?

The amounts spent by highway authorities in England and Wales on new construction of roads and bridges during each of the three years ended on 31st March, 1931, 1932 and 1933, were approximately £4,406,000, £6,240,000 and £3,822,000 respectively. These amounts are exclusive of administration expenses. Comparable particulars are not available for the financial year 1929–30 and those for the financial year 1933–34 will be published in due course in the Road Fund Report.
