HC Deb 18 June 1935 vol 303 cc177-8

asked the Minister of Transport the present number of consumers of electricity and, for comparison, the number in 1919?

Captain A. HUDSON

The official returns of the Electricity Commissioners show that there were upwards of 6,600,000 consumers at the end of 1934, as compared with 2,600,000 at the end of 1927–28. It is computed that there were some 750,000 consumers in 1919, although no official figures are available.

32. Mr. HALES

asked the Minister of Transport whether he will arrange for his Department to prepare a report show- ing to what extent electric supply companies in this country are under the control of American capital?

Captain HUDSON

I will be glad to obtain for my hon. Friend such information as is available.
