THOMASAction has already been, or is being, taken to implement the development recommendations of the commissions appointed to examine the financial and economic position of Swaziland and Bechuanaland, and careful consideration is being given to those of the similar commission which has recently visited Basutoland, and whose report has just been published.
§ Sir FRANCIS FREMANTLECan the right hon. Gentleman tell us whether steps are being taken in respect of health matters in Bechuanaland, a subject which was brought to his notice last year?
§ Colonel WEDGWOODCan the right hon. Gentleman say what this will cost this country?
Mr. THOMASI cannot at this stage, but we have never shirked our responsibility as regards finding money.
§ Mr. LUNNHave any further instructions been given to the High Commissioner of these territories as a result of the recent statement made by the Prime Minister of South Africa that they will be transferred at a suitable time?
Mr. THOMASI have had no indication of any change of policy in that connection; but I understand that a question is to be directed to me on Thursday, and I will give a full statement then.
