asked the Secretary of State for Dominion Affairs whether he has any statement to make as to our relations with the Irish Free State?

Mr. J. H. THOMAS

There have been no fresh developments in the general situation, but I am sure that the House will welcome Mr. de Valera's recent statement in the Dail that the Irish Free State Government would not permit its territory to be used as a base for attacking Great Britain.

Mr. LOGAN

Is it not possible, in view of the depressed state of Merseyside, to enter into a new deal with Mr. de Valera in regard to trade?

Mr. THOMAS

I understand that on Thursday my hon. Friend proposes to say something about this matter, and I am sure that he would not like me to anticipate my reply?
