HC Deb 17 June 1935 vol 303 cc25-6
Mr. JOEL

(by Private Notice) asked the Home Secretary whether he is aware that a fourteen-year-old boy, named Guise, whose parents live at 1 House, 5 Court, Wolverhampton Street, Dudley, and who recently escaped from the Home Office Approved School at Stockport for the sixth time, returned home with evidences of alleged brutal ill-treatment at Stockport, which has caused great local resentment, and whether in the circumstances he will hold an inquiry to see whether the punishment by the Headmaster was excessive, whether the school is properly administered, and whether better arrangements cannot be made for treatment of a boy of this type?

Sir J. SIMON

Yes Sir, my attention has been drawn to this case, and the boy has already been examined by the Home Office Medical Inspector. The matter is at present under investigation by the managers of the school, and, pending the receipt of their report, I am not in a position to make any further statement.
