HC Deb 05 June 1935 vol 302 cc1844-5
11. Sir JOHN WALLACE

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty with regard to the proposal to send His Majesty's Ship "Greenwich," now lying at Rosyth, to Leith for repairs, whether it is possible in view of the severe unemployment at Rosyth to make arrangements for the repairs to be carried out at Rosyth naval base?

The CIVIL LORD of the ADMIRALTY(Captain Euan Wallace)

The dockyard at Rosyth is manned only by a care and maintenance party. The workshops are all closed and the plant and machinery is laid up in a state of preservation. In these circumstances it is not possible to make arrangements for the repairs to His Majesty's Ship "Greenwich" to be carried out at Rosyth dockyard.

Sir J. WALLACE

Is it not possible for my hon. and gallant Friend to consider the desirability of transferring a staff to Rosyth to deal with matters of this kind?

Captain WALLACE

That is quite a different question, and perhaps my hon. Friend will put it on the Paper.
