HC Deb 29 July 1935 vol 304 cc2276-7
6. Mr. LYONS

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs what steps he proposes to take as a result of the recent representations made to him by the committee acting on behalf of British holders of Chinese Government bonds?

The SECRETARY of STATE for FOREIGN AFFAIRS (Sir Samuel Hoare)

I presume that my hon. Friend is referring to the Chinese Government ten-year bills of 1918 and ten-year Treasury notes of 1919, in regard to which I have had representations recently. The case of the British holders of these bills and notes, together with that of other issues, has been repeatedly represented to the Chinese Government and will continue to be represented at every favourable opportunity. Beyond that there appear to be no special steps that can be taken.

Mr. LYONS

While thanking my right hon. Friend for what he has said, may I ask whether a time limit can be imposed in asking for the information?

Sir S. HOARE

I do not think I can acid anything to what I have said about taking any favourable opportunities arising for pressing these claims.
