HC Deb 23 July 1935 vol 304 cc1654-5
37. Mr. ALED ROBERTS

asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury whether he has considered the representations from local authorities in Denbighshire and Flintshire protesting against the removal of the land valuation office from Wrexham; and whether, having regard to the inconvenience which will result to the public and the strong feeling against the transfer of Welsh business to an English centre, he is prepared to reconsider his decision and to continue the arrangements which have hitherto subsisted?

The FINANCIAL SECRETARY to the TREASURY (Mr. Duff Cooper)

The closing of the Inland Revenue Valuation Office at Wrexham is part of a reorganisation of the Valuation Districts of England and Wales. This reorganisation is dictated by considerations of economy and administrative efficiency and has been so framed as to reduce to a minimum the possibility of inconvenience to individuals. The bulk of the work at present undertaken by the Wrexham Office will, for the reasons I have mentioned, be assigned to the office at Chester; and it is proposed for administrative purposes to include that office within the Valuation Division of Wales.

Mr. ROBERTS

Will the Financial Secretary be prepared to receive further representations with regard to some portions of the district?

Mr. COOPER

Yes, Sir.
