HC Deb 18 July 1935 vol 304 c1196
9. Mr. T. SMITH

asked the Minister of Labour the number of girls under 16 and of boys under 16 who have been transferred under his schemes to employment in districts away from their homes, and the chief industries and districts to which they have been sent?

Mr. E. BROWN

Since the juvenile transference scheme was started in February, 1928, over 28,000 boys and girls under the age of 18 have been transferred. The large majority of juveniles are transferred at about the age of 16, and I have no figures to show the numbers transferred under 16. The boys enter many industries in London and the South of England and the industrial centre of the Midlands. The majority of girls are placed in residential domestic service in the South of England and the Midlands.
