asked the Under-Secretary of State for India whether he can give figures showing the percentage increase or decrease in the import of British and Japanese piece-goods, respectively, to the port of Karachi in the first quarter of 1935 as compared with the first quarter of 1934?

The percentage increase in the imports of cotton piece-goods into the port of Karachi for the first quarter of 1935 as compared with the same period in 1934 was as follows: for goods of British manufacture, 58 per cent. increase in quantity and 39 per cent. increase in value; for goods of Japanese manufacture, about 6 per cent. increase in quantity and 11 per cent. increase in value.
