39. Mr. LYONS

asked the Secretary of State for Air whether he can give any further information with reference to the air disaster near Heston on Tuesday, 16th July; whether the machine was on regular service or on private charter; and whether it is proposed to hold an inquiry into the matter after the coroner's inquisition?

Sir P. CUNLIFFE-LISTER

I can add nothing at present to the information that has appeared in the Press. The aircraft was flying on a private charter flight, and the circumstances of the accident are being fully investigated by the Inspector of Accidents, whose conclusions will be published. May I take this opportunity of expressing my sincere sympathy with the relatives of those who were killed?

While thanking the right hon. Gentleman for his information, may I ask him whether it is a fact that the aeroplane did not belong to the contracting party who supplied the machine for the trip, and that the pilot was not in the service either of the owner of the machine or of the contracting party?

There is to be the fullest possible inquiry by the inspector of accidents at the Air Ministry into this accident, and I am sure that my hon. and learned Friend will agree that it would be most improper for me to make any statement until I have received the full report.
