HC Deb 17 July 1935 vol 304 cc1046-7
48. Sir P. HARRIS

asked the President of the Board of Trade what was the value per head of population of the exports of United Kingdom produce for the year 1934?

The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the BOARD of TRADE (Dr. Burgin)

The value of the exports of the produce and manufactures of the United Kingdom per head of the population during the year 1934 was £8 9s. 8d.

Sir W. BRASS

Can the hon. Member say on what basis of population that is worked out. Is it based on this year's population or on the last census?

Dr. BURGIN

The information I have is based on the value per head of the population. I suppose it is on the official calculation of population.

49 and 50. Sir P. HARRIS

asked the President of the Board of Trade (1) what was the value of our exports in 1934 to Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, and India, respectively, and the values of our imports from each of these countries;

(2) what was the value of our exports in 1934 to Germany, France, Norway, Denmark, and Sweden, respectively, and the values of our imports from each of these countries?

Dr. BURGIN

The desired information is given on pages 182 to 192 of the Trade and Navigation Accounts for January last.
