HC Deb 17 July 1935 vol 304 cc1029-30
15. Sir GEORGE HAMILTON

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether he will consider recommending to the authorities concerned that they should, in considering the question of the reduction of the present heavy taxation on the rubber plantation companies in Malaya., make it a condition that any such reduction should be used towards raising estate staff salaries to the level existing before 1929?

The SECRETARY of STATE for the COLONIES (Mr. Malcolm MacDonald)

I hardly think that the contribution required from the rubber industry towards public revenues in. Malaya could properly be made dependent on such a condition as my hon. Friend suggests.
