HC Deb 17 July 1935 vol 304 cc1021-2
2. Captain HEILGERS

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he can give the House any information in his possession as to the proposal, made at the Peace Conference in 1919, to hand over the Zeila corridor to Abyssinia, and the reason why the proposal was not proceeded with?

The SECRETARY of STATE for FOREIGN AFFAIRS (Sir Samuel Hoare)

No proposal was made at the Peace Conference to hand over the Zeila corridor to Abyssinia. The last part of the question does not, therefore, arise.

Captain HEILGERS

Had there been any proposal to hand over Zeila to Abyssinia at any time prior to the recent offer?

Sir S. HOARE

My hon. and gallant Friend's question deals with what happened in connection with the Peace Treaty. If he will put down another question, I will give him an answer.
