HC Deb 11 July 1935 vol 304 c464
1. Mr. T. SMITH

asked the Minister of Labour whether he has considered a request for the application of the Trade Boards Acts to the aluminium industry, having regard to the conditions of the workpeople employed by the British Aluminium Company, Limited, and the Aluminium Corporation, Limited, and to the fact that no machinery exists for the purpose of negotiating working conditions; and what action he proposes to take?

The MINISTER of LABOUR (Mr. Ernest Brown)

I have received a request for the application of the Trade Boards Acts to the aluminium industry, and I am at present in communication with the companies concerned on the subject.

Mr. SMITH

Can the right hon. Gentleman say when he is likely to be in a position to make a definite statement?

Mr. BROWN

At the moment no, but I will communicate with the hon. Member.

6. Mr. MANDER

asked the Minister of Labour whether he will state the result of a visit paid recently by one of his inspectors to firms in Willenhall coming under the paper-box trade board and the stamped or pressed metalware trade board.

Mr. BROWN

I find that inquiries have recently been made at three Willenhall establishments. Two of these were found not to be engaged upon work falling within the scope of any trade board: inspection of an establishment in the paper box trade disclosed no infractions of statutory requirements.
