HC Deb 11 July 1935 vol 304 cc466-7
4. Mr. T. WILLIAMS

asked the Minister of Labour how many persons are in receipt of unemployment assistance; and what proportion of them are receiving instruction or training in the various centres?

Mr. E. BROWN

At 24th June, 1935, there were on the registers of Employment Exchanges in Great Britain 672,677 men and 35,940 women with applications authorised for unemployment allowances. Approximately 5,570 men in receipt of unemployment allowances were attending the Government training and instructional centres.

Mr. WILLIAMS

Can the right hon. Gentleman say whether these centres are being extended, and, if so, to what extent?

Mr. BROWN

I would want notice as to the numbers but they are being extended.

Viscountess ASTOR

How many women are being helped by the Government in connection with these training centres in such matters as domestic service?

Mr. BROWN

Perhaps the Noble Lady will put down a question. As she knows, there is an admirable women's committee.
