HC Deb 11 July 1935 vol 304 c469
46. Mr. DAVID GRENFELL

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he has investigated the claims made by inventors of oil separators; whether he is satisfied that the discharge from oil-carrying vessels can be effectively treated and freed from oil; and whether he will require that all new tonnage receiving assistance under the Shipping Industry Act shall be fitted with an efficient separator?

The PRESIDENT of the BOARD of TRADE (Mr. Runciman)

The answer to the first part of the question is in the affirmative. As regards the second part of the question, I understand that, while efficient separators with a capacity up to 150 tons an hour have been placed on the market, there are as yet no separators of sufficient capacity to meet larger requirements. The answer to the last part of the question is in the negative.
