HC Deb 11 July 1935 vol 304 c465
2. Mr. T. WILLIAMS

asked the Minister of Labour when a decision was taken by the Government on the question of including or excluding agricultural workers from the unemployment insurance scheme?

Mr. E. BROWN

On 16th May, 1935.

Mr. WILLIAMS

Can the right hon. Gentleman tell the House what the decision was?

Mr. BROWN

It has been stated many times and approved in principle.

Mr. WILLIAMS

Will the right hon. Gentleman tell us exactly what the decision of the Government was, apart from the approving of any principles, which means nothing?

Mr. BROWN

It has been stated several times in the House and is on public record.

Mr. WILLIAMS

Are we to understand then that that is the only decision that the Government are likely to take in regard to the insurance of agricultural workers?

Mr. BROWN

The hon. Member must understand no such thing.

Mr. PALING

Can the right hon. Gentleman tell us when this will come into operation?

Mr. BROWN

Not now.
