HC Deb 10 July 1935 vol 304 c318
36. Mr. SALT (for Mr. SMEDLEY CROOKE)

asked the President of the Board of Education the number of children attending the elementary schools at the last convenient date, and the approximate number his Department estimates will have to be provided for in 1940?

Mr. RAMSBOTHAM

The returns for 1934–25 are not yet completed, but the number of children on the registers of the public elementary schools during that period was approximately 5,450,000. It is estimated that the corresponding number in 1940–41 will be 4,785,000.
