HC Deb 10 July 1935 vol 304 cc305-6
5. Mr. COCKS

asked the secretary of State for Foreign Affairs on what date he received the French Note making certain representations on the proposed Anglo-German Naval Agreement which was signed on 18th June?

Mr. EDEN

The French Note was communicated to His Majesty's Ambassador at Paris on the 17th June. An identical Note was left at the Foreign Office on the 18th June.

Mr. COCKS

Will the right hon. Gentleman say why some little time was not given to the consideration of this Note before signing this arrangement with Germany?

Mr. EDEN

We communicated the outline of the Agreement to the French Government.

Mr. COCKS

My point is that there was no time to consider the French Note before you signed the German Note. What was the reason for that?

Mr. EDEN

This matter is to be debated to-morrow.

7. Mr. COVE

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether the German naval delegation stipulated any time limit for the signature of the naval agreement on 18th June?

Mr. EDEN

No, Sir.
