HC Deb 10 July 1935 vol 304 c320
39. Commander COCHRANE

asked the Secretary to the Overseas Trade Department whether the Export Credits Guarantee Department is taking any steps to assist the herring industry to secure payment for goods exported overseas?

Lieut.-Colonel COLVILLE

Yes, Sir. This matter has been taken up by the Export Credits Guarantee Department and as a result guarantees have recently been given by the Department in respect of a large part of this season's shipments of cured herring. The shipments so far covered are expected to exceed £600,000 in value.

Commander COCHRANE

Is the hon. and gallant Gentleman satisfied that these facilities are generally known to herring exporters?

Lieut.-Colonel COLVILLE

I believe they are widely known, but I am taking steps to ensure that as far as possible everyone who may benefit by these facilities shall know about them.
