HC Deb 09 July 1935 vol 304 cc146-7
21. Mr. ALLEN

asked the Secretary for Mines whether he has considered the memorial from the corporation of the city of Stoke-on-Trent regarding the damage done to small houses in the city by subsidence caused by mining; and if he can yet make any statement on the subject?

The SECRETARY for MINES (Captain Crookshank)

I have seen the memorandum referred to, but, as has been stated in answer to previous similar questions, the problem raises many issues of a most complicated and contentious nature. I am afraid that I cannot hold out any hope of introducing legislation in the matter in the present state of Parliamentary business.

Colonel WEDGWOOD

Is not the hon. and gallant Member aware that the Committee reported unanimously in favour of certain definite legislation on this point? That report was made two years ago. Is it not possible for the Government to come to some decision in the matter?
