HC Deb 09 July 1935 vol 304 c140
45. Sir HERBERT SAMUEL

asked the Prime Minister whether His Majesty's Government have taken into consideration the resolution adopted by the International Chamber of Commerce at its recent congress in Paris on the necessity of diminishing the barriers to international trade and the desirability of effecting this through multilateral as well as bilateral agreements, and the resolution urging immediate consultations between Governments with a view to an agreement for the provisional stabilisation of exchange rates; and whether His Majesty's Government propose to take any action along the lines suggested?

The PRIME MINISTER (Mr. Baldwin)

I have not yet had official communication of the text of the resolutions in question, but the right hon. Gentleman can be assured that His Majesty's Government will neglect no opportunity that may offer of furthering the restoration of international trade by suitable means.

Mr. HERBERT WILLIAMS

Has my right hon. Friend noticed how rapidly certain foreign protectionist nations have desired to reduce tariffs now that we have put them on?
