HC Deb 04 July 1935 vol 303 cc1986-7
2. Mr. RHYS DAVIES

asked the Minister of Labour whether, in his negotiations for a shorter working week, he has made contact with the employers in the wholesale and retail distributive trades?

Mr. E. BROWN

I have not yet issued invitations to representatives of the distributive trades, but I expect to do so at an early date.

Mr. DAVIES

Will the right hon. Gentleman be good enough to bear in mind the fact that this is the largest industry of all, and that it could afford, better than any other industry could, to reduce the hours of labour and absorb some of those people who are now unemployed?
