§ 38. Mr. THORNEasked the Minister of Labour whether, in consequence of the large surplus that has accumulated in the Insurance Fund, which is increasing week by week, the Unemployment Insurance Statutory Committee have considered the advisability of increasing unemployment benefit to adult men and women, with proportionate increases to children, and the inclusion in the scheme of juveniles between the ages of 14 and 16 for benefit in their own right; and, if so, whether the Government have considered the proposals?

BROWNI understand that the Unemployment Insurance Statutory Committee, as indicated in their report of February last, intend to make a special report upon the financial position of the Unemployment Fund at an early date. Upon receiving such a report, the Government will consider any proposals contained in it.
