Mr. ORR-EWINGasked the Minister of Agriculture what steps he is taking to carry out the recommendations appearing on pages 85 and 86 of the report of the reorganisation commission for fat stock, and page 150 of the report of the reorganisation commission for eggs and poultry, that immediate investigation should be made of the mechanism of 1296 distribution, including a scientific analysis of demand for both product and service in selected food trades?
§ Mr. ELLIOTIn so far as the recommendations referred to by my hon. Friend relate to a census of distribution, I would refer him to the reply given yesterday by my hon. Friend the Parliamentary Secretary to the Board of Trade to the hon. Member for Caerphilly (Mr. Morgan Jones). On the broader question, I would add that the orange books on marketing which are being issued by the Ministry from time to time contain useful data with regard to the mechanism of distribution. The marketing boards are giving close attention to the demand side of their problem, while the field of distribution has been expressly brought within the purview of the recently appointed Milk Reorganisation Commission.
