HC Deb 17 December 1935 vol 307 c1534
59. Major CARVER

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he can give any details as to the effect of the recent international agreement between the European timber-growing countries for the better regulation of timber exports to this country; and whether any such agreement is likely to conflict with the timber import trade from Canada?

Mr. RUNCIMAN

At the moment I am unable to add to the information given in the Press about an agreement between timber export organisations in eight European countries to limit total exports of softwoods from those countries in 1936. It does not appear that the agreement provides for limitation of supplies to individual countries or that the Canadian timber trade can be adversely affected by the agreement.
