HC Deb 17 December 1935 vol 307 cc1557-8
89. Mr. BUCHANAN

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether he has considered the applying of the provisions of the Money Payments (Justice Procedure) Act to Scotland; and, if so, what action he proposes taking?

Sir G. COLLINS

During recent months I have been collecting information on this subect. When my inquiries are completed I shall consider how far they reveal a need for an amendment of the law of Scotland relating to imprisonment in default of payment of fines.

Mr. BUCHANAN

Would the right hon. Gentleman communicate in the meantime with the procurators-fiscal throughout Scotland asking them to be

more lenient in the default of payment of fines?

Sir G. COLLINS

I desire to make the inquiries which I have already started, and I shall have to await the result of those inquiries before giving any further guidance in these matters.
