HC Deb 17 December 1935 vol 307 c1550
66. Mr. GARRO-JONES

asked the President of the Board of Trade what are the regulations restricting the normal hours, particularly successive hours, of duty worked by the crews of fishing vessels; and whether, having regard to the share system worked in Aberdeen trawlers, which tends to give the master of these vessels an incentive to work his crew for excessive periods, he will consider whether some further regulations are necessary to promote both efficiency and more satisfactory conditions?

Mr. RUNCIMAN

There are, so far as I am aware, no regulations on this subject. I understand that the Sea-Fish Commission, constituted in accordance with the Sea-Fishing Industry Act, 1933, have received representations about the conditions of employment of the crews of fishing vessels and when their report is available further consideration will be given to the points raised in my hon. Friend's question.
