asked the Under-Secretary of State for India the figures showing the amount of opium exported by the Government of India for the period ended the last 12 months, and the total revenue received by the Government of India on that account?

The UNDER-SECRETARY of STATE for INDIA (Mr. Butler)

The quantity of opium exported from India during the year ended 30th September, 1935, was 322 chests and the sale proceeds at the contract price of Rs.4,000 a chest was Rs.12,88,000.

Can the hon. Gentleman say how much a chest contains?

Mr. BUTLER

The contents of a chest is 140 lbs.?

Is that an increase on the previous year?

Mr. BUTLER

Will the hon. Member put that question down?

Is not India working through the League of Nations as on other drug schemes, and has she not this year ratified a further Convention?

Mr. BUTLER

Yes.
