§ Major TRYONThe extra staff recruited for the Christmas period will in London be paid at the rate of 1s. 2d. an hour (1s. 1d. an hour for portering work); the rates in provincial towns will generally be somewhat lower and will, as in the past, be fixed according to local conditions. Attendance on Christmas Day and Sunday will be paid for at rate plus a half. The rates for the present year are 1d. an hour higher than those paid four years ago. The period of employment will vary according to the requirements of the particular office, and I regret that there is no available information on which to calculate the average period.
