HC Deb 12 December 1935 vol 307 c1098
52. Mr. ACLAND

asked the Home Secretary whether, having regard to the expressed desires of several traders' associations for legislation to restrict Sunday trading, he will consider introducing such legislation during the life of the present Parliament?

Sir J. SIMON

I understand that the Early Closing Association, in consultation with the principal organisations of employers and employed in the distributive trades, is at present engaged in the preparation of a Bill on the subject of Sunday trading, with a view to its introduction by a Private Member. I should welcome a discussion in the House on a Bill of this character, but I could not at present hold out any prospect of Government legislation on this controversial subject.
