HC Deb 11 December 1935 vol 307 cc913-4
81. Mr. WESTWOOD

asked the Secretary for Mines what steps, if any, he has taken or proposes to take consequent upon the investigation into overtime in Scottish mines?

The SECRETARY for MINES (Captain Crookshank)

Since the publication of the report of this investigation I have discussed the question of overtime generally, with particular reference to Scotland, with the Mining Association and with the Mineworkers' Federation and have also had correspondence with the Scottish coalowners. I have reason to believe that this has resulted in a substantial improvement in the situation. I am continuing to watch the position closely, and if I receive any specific complaints, I will have them investigated at once.
