HC Deb 10 December 1935 vol 307 cc703-4
2. Colonel WEDGWOOD

asked the Under-Secretary of State for Dominion Affairs what action is being taken or is contemplated in connection with the recent reports on Bechuanaland and Basutoland?

The UNDER-SECRETARY of STATE for DOMINION AFFAIRS (Mr. Douglas Hacking)

Funds have been provided either from the Colonial Development Fund or from general revenue for the proposals relating to the economic development of the Bechuanaland Protectorate recommended in Sir Alan Pim's report. In the case of Basutoland, approval has been given for the provision of assistance from the Colonial Development Fund for the proposals in the report relating to an ecological survey, the improvement of livestock and the provision of wool classing sheds. The advisory committee have also agreed in principle to recommend assistance in respect of the scheme for dealing with erosion. The details of this scheme, and other matters referred to in the report, are still under consideration.

Colonel WEDGWOOD

Can the right hon. Gentleman tell me whether anything has been done in respect of Swaziland?

Mr. HACKING

I do not think that arises out of this question.
