HC Deb 05 December 1935 vol 307 cc287-8
38. Mr. LEACH

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he is prepared to make any announcement of the Government's intentions in regard to the next instalment of the American debt shortly due for payment; and what steps, in the event of his intention not to pay, will be taken to allay American suspicions that her money is being employed for the promotion of an armaments race?

Mr. W. S. MORRISON

The answer to the first part of the question is in the negative. The anxiety expressed by the hon. Member in the second part of the question is without foundation, and in that connection I would refer to the communications between the two Governments, contained in Command Paper 4210 of 1932.

Mr. LEACH

Will the hon. and learned Gentleman inform us if the usual half-yearly dunning letter has been received yet?
