HC Deb 05 December 1935 vol 307 cc272-3
12. Mr. MANDER

asked the Minister of Labour what steps the Government propose to take with regard to the abolition of systematic overtime, and how far this matter has been dealt with at the industrial conferences already held?

Lieut.-Colonel MUIRHEAD

The question of overtime has been discussed with every association of employers at the meetings held by my right hon. Friend and his predecessor. These discussions are still continuing, and my right hon. Friend is not yet in a position to say what proposals may be made.

Mr. MANDER

Can my hon. and gallant Friend say whether, in the opinion of his Department, there is much systematic overtime being worked at the present time?

Lieut.-Colonel MUIRHEAD

I could not give any general opinion on the subject.
