HC Deb 29 April 1935 vol 301 c23
32. Mr. THORNE (for Mr. HICKS)

asked the Minister of Health whether a strict injunction is now being laid on the local authorities to enforce existing by-laws whose purpose is to provide safeguards against the erection of insanitary, unhealthy, and jerry-built houses?

Sir H. YOUNG

Local authorities have a duty to enforce their by-laws, and I have no reason to suppose that there is any neglect of this duty. I am always prepared to inquire into any cases in which it is alleged that a local authority has not taken appropriate action.
