HC Deb 18 April 1935 vol 300 cc1994-5
14. Mr. THORNE

asked the Home Secretary whether he has received a report in connection with a lift accident to a 14-year-old boy, who was severely injured at Oakley House, Bloomsbury, W.C.; whether he is aware that the accident occurred at the end of his first day's work; and whether he will consider the advisability of issuing orders to prevent young boys of 14 years operating private and public lifts without proper instruction?

Sir J. GILMOUR

I have not received a report upon the accident in question, but I will cause inquiry to be made and communicate later with the hon. Member. As regards the last part of the question, I would refer the hon. Member to the reply I gave to a question by him on the 6th of February last.

Mr. THORNE

Will the Home Secretary not consider the advisability of seeking power to issue some kind of regulation dealing with youths using lifts, as there is a very large number of these accidents taking place almost weekly?
