§ 6. Mr. GARDNERasked the First Lord of the Admiralty the amount spent on structural stores required in connection with the building and repair of ships in His Majesty's dockyards each year during the past 10 years; whether tenders were obtained for the supply of such material; what Admiralty department was responsible for examining and reporting on such tenders; and whether the lowest tenders were accepted?
The FINANCIAL SECRETARY to the ADMIRALTY (Lord Stanley)As the reply to the first part of the question is in tabular form, I will, with the hon. Member's permission, circulate it in the OFFICIAL REPORT. The answer to the remainder of the question is as follows:—Tenders were obtained. The responsibility for examining and reporting on such tenders rested with the Director of Navy Contracts in consultation where necessary with the technical department concerned, namely, the Directorate of Naval Construction. The lowest tenders meeting all requirements in regard to quality and delivery were accepted.
