HC Deb 17 April 1935 vol 300 c1846
49. Mr. LEONARD

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether he is aware that a single apartment attic at 22, Rigg Street, Stewarton, is occupied by a family of eight units: that it has been condemned by the medical officer of health since September, 1933; and, as this family cannot be rehoused until a clearance order has been confirmed by his Department, what action he proposes to take?

Sir G. COLLINS

I am aware of the facts stated in the first and second parts of the question. As regards the last part, the Clearance Order in question relates to a single building comprising four houses and as the competency of making an Order in such circumstances is at present the subject of an appeal to the Court of Session in another case, consideration of the matter has had to be deferred pending the result of the appeal. I am, however, instituting inquiries as to whether, in the meantime, arrangements cannot be made for the immediate re-housing of the family concerned.
