HC Deb 17 April 1935 vol 300 c1836
29. Mr. RHYS DAVIES

asked the First Commissioner of Works whether he will consider scheduling and taking over as an ancient monument the cottage, Cefn Brith, Breconshire, where John Penry, the martyr, was born?

The FIRST COMMISSIONER of WORKS (Mr. Ormsby-Gore)

I understand that this farmhouse is still inhabited. It cannot, therefore, be scheduled or accepted for guardianship by the Commissioners of Works under the provisions of the Ancient Monuments Acts.

Mr. DAVIES

Will the right hon. Gentleman be good enough to keep an eye on this property for the purpose of future consideration?

Mr. ORMSBY-GORE

Any house that is inhabited is expressly ruled out from the Ancient Monuments Act.
